Central scientific platforms and core facilities

Scientific platforms

In recent years, various central scientific research and teaching platforms have been established that serve or are available to all University Medical Center institutions. The scientific platforms include:

The Cell Biology Unit (CBU)

The Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (CTH)

The Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Studies (IZKS)

The Mainz Research Center for Mental Health (MZPG)

The Neuroimaging Center Mainz (NIC)

The Translational Animal Research Center (TARC)

In addition, the researchers have access to various core facilities.

The Cell Biology Unit

The Cell Biology Unit is a central platform within the University Medical Center Mainz. It gives all scientists at University Medical Center Mainz access to the latest microscopy techniques and the expertise these require.

The NeuroImaging Center Mainz (NIC)

The neuroscience focus program at the University Medical Center initially promoted an “interdisciplinary methodology platform” for PET and MRI, first in humans and since 2006 also in animals (animal PET). It was this platform that formed the basis for the Neuroimaging Center Mainz in 2007, which works in close coordination with the Department of Nuclear Medicine and the Department of Neuroradiology.

The Neuroimaging Center’s tasks include, in particular, development of novel functional imaging paradigms, coordination of imaging methods with the needs of neurophysiology and parallel use of MRI and PET.
