Novartis Foundation

The Graduate Award of the Novartis Foundation for Therapeutic Research – established in 1992 – is an award specifically for young researchers with doctoral degrees who are still at the beginning of their scientific careers and have already attracted attention through outstanding achievements (e.g., through a particularly good doctoral thesis, a publication with remarkable research results, or the development of innovative research hypotheses or approaches). The funding is intended to support therapy-relevant or therapeutic research. Clinical trials under the Medical Product Act (AMG) and the German Medical Devices Act (MPG) that are funded by a pharmaceutical company are excluded. The award is endowed with €8,000.

The grant will be transferred to the award recipient's third-party funded account. The funds can be used freely within the scope of their research activities. The purpose of financial support is to enable the award recipient to afford certain "extras," such as conference attendance, computers, books, or similar items. After approximately one year, or when the funds are exhausted, the recipient will prepare a brief status report for the foundation on the progress of the project and the use of the funds.

Candidates can apply independently or be nominated by the institution's directors. There will be one award winner each year from 2025 to 2027. The recipients will be presented and honored at the TransMed Science Day.

Please use the template for your application and send it to prodekan-forschung.um@uni-mainz.de by April 24th 2026.
