Recognition of a habilitation awarded by another university (Umhabilitation)

If a staff member of the University Medical Center Mainz has completed the habilitation procedure at another university and requires this to be formally recognized by the University Medical Center Mainz, the Chief Scientific Officer may apply for the University Medical Center Faculty Council to recognize the habilitation.
Such recognition is dependent on a review to determine whether the achievements required for the habilitation were equivalent to those required under the regulations applicable at the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
Similarly, individuals who are not employed by the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz should likewise submit applications for recognition of their habilitation to the Chief Scientific Officer. The Committee for the Advancement of Early-Career Researchers will then consider whether there is a corresponding need for teaching and research at the University Medical Center Mainz. If the request for recognition of the habilitation is accepted, the procedure is analogous to that for recognition of a habilitation for staff members of the University Medical Center Mainz.
If it is determined that the habilitation procedures are equivalent, candidates will generally not be required to submit new written and oral habilitation achievements.
In agreement with the institution director, a request for recognition of the habilitation may be submitted to the Chief Scientific Officer. In such a case, the assessment of equivalence is usually waived (Section 14, para. 4 (2) Habilitation Regulations).
