The Gender Equality Office at the University Medical Center Mainz is committed to achieving sustainable equality between women and men at all levels and in all areas of the University Medical Center Mainz. Medicine Mentoring at the University Medical Center Mainz (MeMentUM) is a mentoring program for early-career female researchers. To mark its tenth anniversary, the program for the advancement of women, formerly known as the Edith Heischkel Mentoring Program (EHMP), has been operating under the new name of MeMentUM since 2018. For one year, early-career female researchers are personally supported by an experienced mentor (one-to-one mentoring). In addition, the program offers a diverse range of workshops and the opportunity to network with other female researchers. You can find more information

The Dagmar Eißner Prize for Early-Career Researchers
As part of its support program for the advancement of women, the University Medical Center Mainz annually awards the Dagmar Eißner Prize for Early-Career Researchers. Prizes are awarded for scholarly work evidenced by publication(s) from the preceding year (published or accepted for publication). In total, the prize is worth €3,000. The call for entries is restricted to female researchers at the University Medical Center Mainz who are 35 years old or younger at the time of application, although child-rearing periods, nursing periods, or other life circumstances will be taken into account as per the German Research Foundation (DFG) guidelines. The call for entries is published at the beginning of the year by the Chief Scientific Officer.
The Gutenberg College for Young Researchers (GNK)
The Gutenberg College for Early-Career Researchers (GNK) is a central academic institution of Johannes Gutenberg University that funds and promotes the interdisciplinary networking of the next generation of academics and artists. It has access to funding from the Rhineland-Palatinate Research Initiative. This allows sustainable funding measures to be provided to support early-career academics, such as the “Career Prospects for Postdocs” project and the portal for early-career academics and artists.

There are three childcare facilities at the University Medical Center Mainz. These include the Zahlbach daycare center, the UNImediminis daycare center, and the Kinderhaus Villa Nees. You can find more information about the individual facilities
here. In addition, we provide a KidsBox – a mobile parent-child room. The box houses numerous high-quality toys for babies and children up to elementary school age, and various hygiene items, while offering sleeping and diaper-changing facilities. If you require the KidsBox at short notice, please contact
gleichstellung@unimedizin-mainz.de.
The University Medical Center Mainz is stepping up its efforts to support dual-career couples and has joined the Dual-Career Network of the Rhine-Main metropolitan region to this end.
