Studying and teaching at the Universitätsmedizin Mainz

The Universitätsmedizin (University Medical Centre) Mainz at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (JGU) is the only training facility of the state Rhineland-Palatine for human medicine and dentistry. One in ten of all matriculated students of the JGU are studying human medicine (approx. 2.650) or dentistry (approx. 680).

The task and concern of the Universitätsmedizin is to offer a quality high-value, diverse and differentiated curriculum for the students and continue work on its improvement. During recent years, many innovative approaches ( Introduction of a quality assurance program, promotional teaching program MAICUM, performance-oriented funding) were introduced. The good performance from Mainz students on the State Examinations, as well as the results of curriculum evaluations, strongly confirm this.

The number of applicants nationwide demonstrates the appeal studying at the Universitätsmedizin Mainz has for students. A comprehensive insight into the teaching and learning environment at the Universitätsmedizin is provided by the yearly teaching-report which provides detailed data-acquisition of the students, applicants- and graduate numbers. From the perspective of both students and teachers, it documents the situation and development of learning and teaching and the Universitätsmedizin, and describes the work done by the teaching committee and its working groups. Furthermore, the teaching-report represents various innovative teaching-projects and -concepts and reports on prices and awards as well as current developments.
