Welcome to the research and teaching homepage of the Medical Center at Mainz University.

The University Medical Center with its staff of 6,500 is the second largest employer in Rhineland-Palatinate. Besides providing medical care to the population in the immediate vicinity and the surrounding region, the Medical Center applies Humboldt's humanistic educational approach through its dedicated focus on research and teaching. These aspects are coordinated within the Department of Research and Teaching.

The University Medical Center in Mainz is the only teaching facility within Rhineland-Palatinate for human medicine and dentistry and currently has a roll of 3,300 matriculated students. The high quality of teaching at the Center is demonstrated by the good state examination results achieved by those who study at Mainz and the excellent external evaluations of the quality of the courses offered. Various quality assurance and other initiatives are in place to secure continuous improvements to the quality of teaching.

Scientific research activity within the University Medical Center is distinguished by two features. First, it covers a wide range of content and combines outstanding expertise and resources from various areas within its research groups and areas of focus. Second, the high standard of research is clearly documented by the number of excellent publications and ever-increasing amounts of competitive third-party funding. Both nationally and internationally, the University Medical Center acts at the forefront of medical research .
